Heroes of the Arctic ice: “first person” of the Russian Arctic


The Russian Arctic is the polar region of the earth within the boundaries of the Russian Federation, adjacent to the North pole and including the Northern coast of Eurasia, the Arctic ocean Islands and the Pacific ocean washing Chukotka. The modern boundaries of the Russian Arctic are defined by the decree of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin on may 2, 2014

From the XI century, Russian explorers began to explore the coast of the Arctic ocean, and currently, the maximum border length in the Arctic is Russia – 22 600 km.

The conquest of the Northern land was more than a century and is associated with names of famous polar explorers, which has consistently charted new Islands and Straits, breaking the Arctic ice.
