Putin in Iran will meet with Rouhani and Ayatollah Khamenei, possible conversations with other leaders

MOSCOW, November 20. The President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the summit of gas exporting countries in Tehran on November 23, will hold talks with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. “Provided the meeting with President of Iran Hassan Rouhani, it will be the third meeting this year, and there will be a conversation with the Supreme leader of the Islamic Republic Ali Khamenei”, – said the representative of the Kremlin.

The agenda of the meeting

“All will be discussed topical issues of bilateral cooperation – trade and investment cooperation, nuclear energy, oil and gas, cooperation on military-technical cooperation”, – said Ushakov. According to him, the great attention will be paid to topical international issues: the settlement of the conflict in Syria, the implementation of the joint comprehensive plan of action regarding Iran’s nuclear program, combat terrorism, in particular, to combat grouping “Islamic state” (banned in Russia).

In addition, according to the assistant to the President, one of the most important positions in the Declaration would be the continuation of long-term contracts to ensure a balance of interests and equal distribution of risks between sellers and buyers.

Ushakov did not rule out that on the sidelines of a gas summit the head of state could meet with the President of Bolivia, Evo Morales, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and other leaders. “There are appointment requests, particularly from the President of Bolivia, from the President of Venezuela. We will look how to lay out the agenda of this event and, accordingly, will try to find the “window” for these and possibly other contacts, including short contacts “on the ground”, – said the representative of the Kremlin.

The summit in Tehran

The forum of gas exporting countries held in Tehran on 21-23 November. The summit will be held meetings of the Executive Council of the forum, and on November 21 the meeting of energy Ministers of States-participants of the Forum of gas exporting countries.

According to Ushakov, the theme of the Tehran summit is “Natural gas is the best fuel for sustainable growth”. During the summit, the participants plan to discuss the prospects of the global gas market and encourage gas consumption.

Also, the participants will exchange opinions on actual problems standing in the way of gas industry development. Special attention will be given to coordinated steps to promote the interests of natural gas producers.

According to Ushakov, many documents are under preparation, but he announced two documents to be signed at the summit. So, the planned signing of the agreement between the governments of Russia and Iran on the simplification of mutual trips of separate categories of citizens also will be signed the Memorandum of understanding between the ministries of health of the Russian Federation and Iran.
