SOCHI, November 24. The Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov cancelled his visit to Turkey, scheduled for November 25. “A decision was made to cancel that meeting, which was scheduled for tomorrow in Istanbul at the level of Ministers of foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and the Turkish Republic,” Lavrov said to journalists.

It was planned that 25 of November Lavrov will take part in the fifth meeting of the Russian-Turkish Joint strategic planning group in Turkey.

The terrorist threat from the territory of Turkey is growing, said Sergey Lavrov. “What is necessary today to emphasize is the increase of terrorist threats, which emanate from the territory of Turkey,” Lavrov said to journalists. “And this is regardless of whether the event that has occurred today,” he said, referring to the attack of the Turkish air force Russian su-24 aircraft.

The threat of terrorism from Turkey, no less than from Egypt, and the Russian foreign Ministry recommends Russian citizens to travel to the Republic of Turkey, said the foreign Minister. “According to our estimates, no less threats (terrorism emanating from Turkey) than in Egypt,” Lavrov said to journalists.

The Minister recalled that at the meeting with Jordan’s king Abdullah II, the President of Russia Vladimir Putin gave an assessment of the attack of the Turkish air force on the Russian bomber. The Minister stressed that the Russian aircraft carried out anti-terrorist mission and was in Syrian airspace. “Evaluation (Putin) is extremely clear. The President specifically said that it can’t but affect Russian-Turkish relations”, – said the head of the Russian foreign Ministry.

Defense Ministry: Russian su-24 was shot down while returning to the airbase in Syria

Front-line bomber su-24 Russian air group on Tuesday crashed in Syria.
