MOSCOW, 26 Nov. Syrian authorities hope that the participation of Russian companies in development of oil fields in Syrian coast, said Thursday the foreign Minister of Syria Walid Muallem in a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin.
The foreign Minister of Syria reported decision “to give priority to Russian companies in economic projects in Syria, especially in the construction, rehabilitation and production of oil”.
“We have information that the oil and gas fields on the continental shelf, on the coast of Syria have great potential,” — said Muallem.
He noted that one Russian company has already signed a contract, and the Syrian authorities are counting on “that other companies will follow suit, as we are ready to provide any benefits to Russian companies”.
“And we hope that the Syrian shores will be attended not only Russian military ships and platforms for oil,” said the Syrian Minister.
In particular, according to him, there is information that field near the city of Baniyas is one of the wealthiest in the Mediterranean.
