Naftogaz: Kiev refuses to pay for Russian gas and will buy it in Europe

MOSCOW, 26 Nov. The head of the company “Naftogaz of Ukraine” Andriy KOBOLEV said that Ukraine refuses to pay for Russian gas, and just decided to buy fuel in Europe.

“Today’s decision was made on the basis of economic considerations — to buy more cheap gas”, — he said in an interview with CNN.

“Yes, because we have better options — to buy it in Europe,” — said KOBOLEV asked to clarify why stopped purchases of Russian gas, because Ukraine refuses to pay or because it has more favorable options.

Earlier, the Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk said that “Naftogaz of Ukraine” has stopped purchasing Russian gas on behalf of the government.

Yesterday the Minister of energy Alexander Novak said that Russian gas supplies to Ukraine can stop in two days for lack of payment. Earlier head “Gazprom” Alexey Miller noted that the advance payment for Russian gas is still not received. The last tranche for gas was received from Ukraine on 5 November. Miller noted that Ukraine currently takes a very small amount of gas. But even with such volumes to Ukraine prepaid gas left for a few days.
