IMAX will increase the number of cinemas in Japan by 50%


Moscow. December 3. Canadian IMAX Corporation. intends to increase the number of cinemas in Japan by 50% after signing agreement with Japan’s Toho Cinemas on the construction of 10 new large-format theaters in the country, according to MarketWatch.

The Japanese market is the third largest in the world after USA and China. In 2014 box office revenues of cinemas in the country amounted to $2 billion.

Despite the small number of IMAX cinemas in Japan, the country is among the ten major global markets in terms of revenues. On average, each Japanese IMAX brings the company $1.2 million a year.
