Moscow. December 4. The participants of the EU summit on December 17-18 will discuss the project of gas pipeline “Nord stream-2”, reported the European online media EurActiv.
“The discussion is unlikely to go very far, because the country objecting to the project, using legal arguments that do not have wide recognition,” says EurActiv, citing analysts.
Earlier it was reported that nine European countries, including Poland and Slovakia, sent a letter to Brussels via the “Nord stream-2” with the requirement to make a question about this project in the agenda of the December EU summit. In a letter addressed to the President of the European Council Donald Tusk expressed concern that the project will increase Europe’s dependence on Russian gas and that it is contrary to EU energy policy.
At the same time, the President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker are opposed to the pipeline project was seen as political. He believes that this issue belongs to the sphere of business and should be considered only from the point of view of its conformity with the EU rules, wrote the British newspaper Financial Times.
