Kovtun: Murmansk region will become the service centre of Arctic exploration

ST. PETERSBURG, 8 Dec. The Murmansk region should become the new center of service support Arctic Maritime activities, reported at the V international forum “Arctic: present and future” Murmansk region Governor Marina Kovtun.

“Due to competitive advantages of the region in the perspective of Murmansk region will become the center of service support Maritime activities in the Arctic. This is greatly facilitated by the successful implementation of the project “Complex development of Murmansk transport hub,” said Kovtun.

She noted that in the message to the Federal Assembly the President of Russia called Murmansk transport hub including “powerful logistics centres” of the country.

“We understand the magnitude of the state tasks on development of the Arctic shelf, and also the role of the region as a base for its development. So today are created all necessary conditions for our strategic partners-investors. We try to consider interests of various oil and gas companies operating in the Arctic,” said the Governor.

Kovtun focused on the establishment of a mechanism of state support the government of the Murmansk region investment activity. “We provide investors with tax incentives, organizational assistance and information, the recoverable part of the costs of certain needs,” the Governor added.

In addition, Kovtun said at the forum that a very promising project, along with MTU, is the construction of a shore base support of JSC “NK “Rosneft” sites for the production of elements of infrastructure offshore mining projects and related transport infrastructure in Murmansk. This project is directly connected with the development of oil fields in the Arctic.
