ROME, 11 December. Lavrov about the possibility of joining the coalition of the US: ready for equal dialogue, a salute will not.
This was stated by Minister of foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov following the meeting with Italian counterpart Paolo Gentiloni.
Russia is not about to join the U.S.-led coalition fight against the terrorist group ISIS in Syria and coordination on an equal footing, Lavrov said.
“We are still talking about coordination, not about joining the American coalition, and coordination on an equal basis those actions that we carried out and implemented by the coalition,” he said.
The coalition should rely on international law
Moscow considers the coalition against terrorism created by the USA, as a potentially effective partner, but she needs to rely on international law, Lavrov said.
“The coalition that created US, we regard as a potentially effective partner, – said the Minister. – For it to become truly effective, of course, it would be important to rely on a solid basis of international law, decisions of the UN security Council”.
“It is unclear why the creation of this coalition, the United States, with the consent of Iraq and appealed to Damascus for a similar agreement, did not come to the UN security Council, where no doubt we could have agreed on the legal basis that nobody would create any political and other difficulties – said Lavrov. – However, the American coalition is a reality”.
“We are pleased that the last couple of months the operations of our military space forces in the airspace, in response to requests from the government of Syria, us coalition began to act more intensively, – has noticed the Minister. In particular, during this period, coalition aircraft began to bomb the objects associated with illicit trafficking in oil from fields captured by the ISIL (the former name is forbidden in the Russian Federation the terrorist group “Islamic state)”. “And, I think, in addition to the physical expansion of this coalition, it is also important to pay attention to the quality of the work being done”.
“Islamic state” (ISIS) – an Islamist terrorist organization operating inside Iraq and Syria. Established on 15 October 2006 by the merger of 11 radical Sunni groups.
