Matvienko: the President of Turkmenistan spoke in favor of strategic cooperation with Russia


ASHGABAT, 11 December. President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov called for the development of strategic partnership with Russia. This was stated by the speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko on the results of the meeting with the head of state.

“It’s nice that the President of Turkmenistan stressed that the Turkmen-Russian cooperation should have its own perspective, to develop actively, that he strongly supports the strategic partnership with Russia,” she said, adding that the conversation with the head of Turkmenistan was “friendly, but not complimentary”. “We talked about what is good and what has been done and where we are not finalizing”, – said the head of the Federation Council.

In her opinion, the development of Russian-Turkmen relations will also contribute to the agreement on cooperation between the Federation Council and the Mejlis of Turkmenistan. “Parliamentarians, finding an agreement will be more actively develop cooperation in various spheres”, – said Matvienko. According to her colleagues, the speaker of the Majlis of ACDI Nurberdyeva, signed “perfect” document “will provide an opportunity for the new development of relations” between Russia and Turkmenistan.

The delegation of the Federation Council led by Valentina Matvienko arrived in Ashgabat to participate in celebrations on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of permanent neutrality of Turkmenistan.
