Ukraine plans to appeal to the WTO, Russian food restrictions


Moscow. December 11. Ukraine will be forced to initiate a new dispute under the rules and procedures of the world trade organization (WTO) in the case of the continuation of restrictive measures by Russia against the Ukrainian food.

“If discriminatory measures are not stopped, Ukraine will be forced to initiate a new dispute under the rules and procedures of the WTO. The draft of the request to the authority of the WTO dispute settlement on prohibited to import into Russia of Ukrainian products already developed”, – is spoken in the message on the website of MEDT.

The Agency constantly monitors and analyzes trade restrictions the Ukrainian export from the Russian Federation. According to the results of monitoring, decisions about the appropriateness of using the WTO instruments for protection of interests of domestic producers on foreign markets.

The Ministry notes that there are already a number of restrictions imposed by Russia on imports of Ukrainian salt, confectionery, beer, juice, dairy products.

“The primary objective of the dispute settlement mechanism, usually, is the abolition of measures which do not comply with the provisions of the WTO agreements. If during consultations the parties fail to reach agreement – the country-the claimant prepares a request to create an independent panel of experts, which reviews the arguments of each party and decide on the legitimacy of the relevant measures,” cited in the message the Deputy Minister of economic development and trade – trade representative of Ukraine Nataliya Mykolska.

The Russian Federation August 13, 2015, took the decision to include Ukraine in the list of countries to which to apply the trade embargo. From 28 July 2014, Russia imposed a ban on deliveries of Ukrainian dairy products and cheese, July 28 – canning production, 31 July – juices, 22 October – regulated plant products, December 10, 2015 – chicken.
