The FSB has taken note of the suggestion to restrict access to Telegram in Russia

MOSCOW, December 16. In the Federal security service of the Russian Federation “took note of” the appeal of the Deputy of the state Duma Alexander Ageev with the proposal to limit access of Russia to the messenger Telegram and not exclusive of that provided by the Deputy information “will be required”. This is stated in the official response to the request Ageev signed by the head of service of FSB of Russia Alexey Sedov.

“In the Federal security service of the Russian Federation, Your appeal regarding Telegram messenger reviewed. The information you provide is noted and, if necessary, will be used in activity of bodies of Federal security service”, – stated in the letter of the FSB, a copy of which is available.

First Deputy Chairman of state Duma Committee on constitutional legislation and state construction Alexander Ageev (“Fair Russia”) in mid-November sent a request to the head of the FSB Alexander Bortnikova, which indicated that “according to reports, repeatedly appearing in the Russian media, the messenger Telegram is actively used for propaganda purposes by terrorists from the “Islamic state” (is prohibited in the Russian Federation a terrorist organization)”.

“Through the messenger Telegram apply text, photo and video materials with extremist content. We can assume that there occurs the process of recruitment of Russian citizens in the ranks of the IG. In this connection he asked the Director of the FSB “to fully verify this information and if necessary to consider the possibility of limiting the access of users who are on the territory of the Russian Federation, Telegram messenger”.
