“Regarding retirement age, I now hold the view that the time was not yet ripe. But I’ll be honest: I’m not only experts, but just practice talking – you want people to do good, and eventually will cause harm,” said Putin at the annual press conference in Moscow.

As explained by the head of state, “as longevity increases, the number of employees will decrease in comparison with the number of unemployed people, and then you may experience systemic problems of filling the Pension Fund”.

“In fact, this can lead to reduction of incomes of pensioners, the government will have to lower the level of pensions or to raise the retirement age”, – said Putin.

However, he stressed that, “if this is done (to raise the retirement age), then this should be done, as has the decision by officials – leisurely and peaceful”.

“And when it should be done, I don’t have an answer for it. But it will have to do. In all countries who are all around us, it is done. But when it will need to do, I don’t want to talk about it publicly, because even we don’t have”, – said the President of the Russian Federation.
