Media: Ukraine hopes for a pre-trial agreement with Russia on debt

The Ukrainian authorities expect to be able to negotiate with Russia on the debt to court, the Minister of Finance of Ukraine Natalia Yaresko in an interview with Bloomberg.

MOSCOW, 18 Dec. The Minister of Finance of Ukraine Natalie Jaresko expressed the hope that Ukraine will be able to come to a pretrial agreement with Russia on the debt, she said in an interview with Bloomberg TV.

“Ukraine hopes to agree with Russia on the debt before the court,” — said Yaresko.

On Friday, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine introduced a moratorium on the payment of debt to Russia to $ 3 billion, maturing December 20. The moratorium also applies to payment of 507 million dollars two Ukrainian companies to Russian banks — KB “southern” and Ukravtodor. The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine ready to sue Russia because of a debt in 3 billion dollars.

The international monetary Fund earlier officially confirmed that the debt of Ukraine to the Russian Federation is the official, and therefore under the rules of the IMF cannot be renegotiated on the same terms as the debt to private creditors. Kiev said that taking into account the position of the Fund, however, will still not be able to repay without violating the primary conditions of the loan. However, the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine expressed its readiness to negotiate with Russia on the restructuring of this debt.
