The Communist party will help the Communist party of Ukraine to appeal the ban in the Strasbourg court

MOSCOW, 18 Dec –. The Communist party of Russia will support the Communist party of Ukraine, deliberately to appeal to the European court of human rights ban on its activities in Ukraine, said Secretary of the Central Committee of the CPRF, state Duma Deputy Sergei Obukhov.

On Wednesday, the District administrative court of Kyiv satisfied the claim of Ministry of justice of Ukraine on banning the Communist party, introduced in July 2014. The leader of the CPU Petro Symonenko said that the party intends to appeal against this decision in higher courts in Ukraine, and if it does not — in the ECHR.

“We intend to support the Ukrainian comrades who will challenge the ban of the Communist party in the European structures, including the ECHR,” — said Obukhov.

Thus, according to him, the procedure of adjudication in the ECHR is highly bureaucratic and can take years.

“I think that at this time the CPU could, without changing ideology, not softening the rhetoric, however, temporarily change the name to match albeit barbaric, but enforceable court decisions, and to continue to fight for the rights of ordinary Ukrainians with a vengeance,” — said Obukhov.

The ban of the Communist party in the Ukraine he called a flagrant violation of basic norms and principles of international and European law. “In the civilized world strictly prohibits discrimination on the basis of political belief. But in the present case, the discrimination is obvious: millions of citizens denied the right to political representation in government, freedom of speech and press, and other fundamental rights and freedoms,” said party member.

He noted that according to the 14th article of the European Convention for the protection of human rights, “the enjoyment of the rights and freedoms recognised in this Convention shall be secured without any discrimination on the grounds of… political or other opinion”. “The situation is completely wild for Europe of the XXI century. We will insist on the consideration of this issue in PACE,” — said Obukhov.

In addition, he said, the Communist party – “the party is the founder of the state of Ukraine, and its prohibition of the deprivation of the foundations of the legitimacy of the present Ukrainian state”.
