Moscow. December 21. Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev instructed the government to hire lawyers and start preparing to appeal to the court about collecting from the debt of Ukraine at $3 billion. he said this following the meeting with Deputy Prime Ministers.

“We need to use measures of protection,” he said.

“Would like to see members of the government, Mr (Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Prikhodko), and as you note, other colleagues, the Ministry of Finance attract , prepared all the necessary decisions in order to address the jurisdictional body that has been elected on the basis of our agreement with Ukraine then to settle the dispute. You will need to hire a lawyer and start this procedure with due care and perseverance,” said the Prime Minister.

On December 20 came the Ukraine late on payments in respect of the Eurobonds for $3 billion. “This means that there has been a financial default as a legal fact, and if you want, is a historical fact”, – said Medvedev.

According to him, there is 10 days grace period, during which Ukraine may repay the debt without penalty. “But judging by the statements of Ukrainian officials, they do not intend to. Accordingly, there will be 10 days default in the legal sense,” he said.

Last week the government of Ukraine introduced a moratorium on the payment of $3,582 billion in Russian debts. Including a moratorium on debt repayment on issued at the end of 2013 Ukrainian Eurobonds for $3 billion, which were bought by Russia, as well as on state-guaranteed loans CB “South” and “Ukravtodor” to Russian banks.
