Shoigu: of cooperation between Russia and France in combating terrorism in Syria is growing

MOSCOW, December 21. The cooperation between Russia and France in combating terrorism in Syria is growing, said the Russian defense Minister, army General Sergei Shoigu at a meeting with his French counterpart Jean-Yves Le Drian.

“You know that we are quite actively involved in this work since the terrorist attacks in Paris, took place the meeting of our seamen in the Mediterranean and on our courts and on your own. In addition, we have something else to discuss, I think that today will be a good constructive conversation, I hope so,” said Shoigu.

Russian and French sailors held meetings in the Mediterranean sea on the ships of the French Navy and the Russian Navy, said the Minister.

The head of the defense Ministry of the Russian Federation and France will discuss the issues of coordination of actions of the two countries to combat terrorism during a meeting in Moscow.

“In accordance with the decision of our presidents, we are working quite actively on carrying out operations to combat terrorism in Syria and in accordance with the instruction of our leaders we must clarify some points relating to the coordination of our actions in this territory,” – said Shoigu.

The combined efforts of Moscow and Paris

Moscow and Paris should unite together to confront shared threats and risks, said French defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian.

“We had quite a long history together of friendship, historical ties, wins. And whatever today’s conditions, it is very important that we can continue this dialogue because of our common history and because of those risks and threats that are hovering over you and over us,” he said.

He stressed that at the moment have to compare the guidelines that were outlined during the bilateral meeting between the presidents of Russia and France on 26 November 2015. “We have to compare the guidelines that were given to us at this meeting”, – said the Minister of defence of France.

He also stressed that his compatriots are very touched that the Russians have shown solidarity after the terrorist attacks in Paris. “I would also like to say that just tribute to the memory of the Unknown soldier”, – said the Minister of defence of France.

Le Drian noted that this year Russia and France celebrated the 70th anniversary of Victory in world war II. He also recalled his two previous meetings with Shoigu, who was a few years ago.

“I am very glad to meet again. Today’s meeting fits into the continuation of the events that followed the bilateral meeting between our presidents on November 26,” said Le Drian.
