The final trilateral meeting on trade of the EU – Ukraine – Russia was launched in Brussels

BRUSSELS, 21 December. /Corr.TASS Denis Dubrovin/. Final in 2016 tripartite Ministerial meeting of Ukraine, Russia and the EU on the introduction of a free trade zone between Ukraine and the European Union kicked off Monday at the residence of the European Commission in Brussels. Participants – the head of Meconematinae of the Russian Federation Alexei Ulyukayev, Minister of foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin and European Commissioner for trade Cecilia malmström on arrival at the talks have refused any comments. According to sources, the likelihood of reaching a compromise at the meeting “extremely small”.

“In autumn 2014 in this format took place more than 20 expert and Ministerial rounds of negotiations. Unfortunately the positions of the parties remain very far from each other,” said a source at one of the delegations.

The EU and Ukraine as of 1 January 2016 we intend to make full use of free trade regime, stipulated by the Association Agreement between Kyiv and Brussels.

The beginning of free trade were postponed for a year – from January 1, 2015, to try to the current concerns of Russia, which notes the need to adapt the free trade regime between Ukraine and the European Union, so it can safely be carried out with participation of Ukraine in free trade zone within the CIS. Kyiv and Brussels have already made a series of statements in which they stressed the refusal of any adaptation of the Association agreement. In this regard, with high probability from 1 January 2016 the free trade regime between Russia and Ukraine will be cancelled and Kiev will be transferred to trading the most favored.
