Universal 24-hour strike carried out employees of Greek ports


ATHENS, December 21. /Corr. Denis Kabanov/. Greek port officials on Monday carried out a national 24-hour strike in protest against privatization of the ports of Piraeus and Thessaloniki. It is reported by the electronic version of the newspaper Proto theme.

The strike is timed to coincide with the date of granting the interested foreign companies binding proposals for the acquisition of the largest in Greece the port of Piraeus. Potential buyers must provide today.

At 11:30 local time (12:30 GMT) to demand the abolition of the sale of Greek ports the strikers will gather at the capital square Klafthmonos.

Also a 3-hour strike from 12:00 to 15:00 local time (13:00 to 16:00 MSK) today announced the Panhellenic Federation of railway workers in protest against the authorities planned privatization of the Greek railway operator TRENOS.
