Russia is ready to continue consultations with Ukraine and the EU in their FTA


The Ukrainian and European partners, according to first Deputy Minister of economic development of the Russian Federation Alexei Likhachev, must recommit to the adoption of practical, mutually acceptable solution

MOSCOW, 22 Dec. Russia is ready to continue consultations with Ukraine and the EU on free trade zone in the case of desire of partners to negotiate, said first Deputy head of the Ministry of economic development Alexey Likhachev.

Last Monday in Brussels tripartite negotiations on the FTA Kiev and the EU ended inconclusively. Of the Russian Federation from 1 January to protect its market for Ukraine introduces customs duties — by the decree of President Vladimir Putin suspended the Treaty on the free trade zone of the CIS in Ukraine. In addition, introduced a grocery embargo for countries that supported sanctions against Russia.

“We are not closing the door. Ready to look for with Ukraine towards eliminating our concerns, but only if the partners confirm their readiness to the adoption of practical, mutually acceptable solution”, — said Likhachev, speaking in the state Duma.

The head of the MAYOR Alexei Ulyukayev on Monday also did not rule out that the work can still be continued after 1 January 2016, but it will be in other conditions. European trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmstrom, however, said that the continuation of the tripartite format of the negotiations is impossible.

Later, the European Commission issued a statement and offered to hold the talks in the tripartite working group as from 1 January 2016, provided that Russia will fulfill its obligations regarding Ukraine in the framework of the free trade zone of the CIS.
