Igor Shuvalov: Putin suggested the EEU to reduce tariffs on agricultural products of Iran


We are talking about reducing, and in some cases the abolition of customs tariffs on vegetables and fruits, nuts, dates, poultry, fish and dairy products.

TEHRAN, 23 Dec. The President of Russia Vladimir Putin at a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian economic Council on December 21 suggested to work a question on reduction of duties for imports of agricultural products from Iran to the Eurasian economic Union, said the first Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov.

“Therefore, in the framework of the Eurasian Commission will be in the month of January seriously worked out. We hope that in the near future colleagues from the Council will consider the issue”, — said Shuvalov at a meeting with representatives of the Iranian authorities.

Last week the head of Ministry of economic development Alexey Ulyukaev met with Minister of industry, mines and trade of Iran Mohammad Reza Nematzade. Following the talks, he said that Russia is considering the possibility of a reduction or cancellation of duties on import of agricultural products from Iran, but the final decision for Commission of the EAEC.

According to Ulyukayev, Russia offers significant steps to improve terms of trade for the Iranians, meaning the reduction and even the abolition of customs tariffs, especially for agricultural products – vegetables and fruits. We are talking about vegetables and fruits, including citrus, nuts, figs, cucumbers, tomatoes, and poultry, fish and dairy products (yoghurts, cheeses).

The establishment of lower tariffs for Iran would not be contrary to the norms of the WTO, noted the speaker.
