MOSCOW, December 23. The head of the Duma Committee on international Affairs Alexei Pushkov believes that the so-called Islamic coalition, the formation of which was initiated by Saudi Arabia, established to improve the weight of Riyadh, and not to fight with Islamic state (terrorist group forbidden in the Russian Federation – ed.).
“I think this coalition is created to increase the weight of Saudi Arabia to resolve the Syrian crisis,” he said at a press conference.
“So far the major players were the United States, representing the interests of the Western Alliance, Turkey that plays its own game and does not wish to seriously participate in any coalition, her own task is to maximise its influence in the region, including by drawing on ISIS, Russia, Iran”, – he explained.
Now, according to the parliamentarian, “Saudi Arabia is already approved as not just a source of financing armed opposition (Syrian President Bashar) Assad, but as a political and diplomatic player, because it formally are 34 States in the Muslim world”.
“I think for this and created a coalition for fighting ISIS,” he says.
Saudi Arabia, on 15 December announced the creation of an Islamic coalition “to fight terrorism in a military and ideological terms”, which, in addition to Kingdom, joined 33 States, more than 10 Islamic countries have supported this Association.
