Shuvalov: Russia may increase the import of agricultural products from Iran


Russia in August 2014 restricted imports of food products from countries that have imposed sanctions against her: USA, EU, Canada, Australia and Norway. In this regard, Russia is actively seeking alternative supplies of food in the country.

TEHRAN, 23 Dec. Russia can significantly increase grain supplies to Iran and increase the import of agricultural products from this country, told journalists the first Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov following the meeting with the Iranian colleagues.

“The increase in grain shipments discussed, we believe that not have any straps to put, can at times to increase the supply of our agricultural products in Iran and a lot more to take from Iran to the Russian market”, — said Shuvalov.

In this regard, Russia last year and a half actively looking for an alternative food supply in the country, as well as increasing its own agricultural production.

A ban were meat, sausage, fish and seafood, vegetables, fruits, dairy products. In June 2015, in response to extension of sanctions, Russia has extended food embargo until 5 August 2016.
