The Kaliningrad authorities want to double the volume of agricultural production


The head of the Kaliningrad region said that the region needs to become a supplier of advanced technology and material for Russian agricultural enterprises, using the experience of our European neighbours.

KALININGRAD, 23 Dec. Kaliningrad authorities plan to double the volume of production in agriculture, said the region’s Governor Nikolai Tsukanov during the message of the regional Duma about the main directions of activities of the regional government for the next five years.

“I set the task for three years to double production in agriculture. And this task must be completed. But we need not only to solve the problem of food security and load their processors, but also more actively engaged in food exports,” — said Tsukanov.

The Governor noted that over the five years put into circulation 130 thousand hectares of land, the cattle population has grown from 62 thousand to 100 thousand heads, one and a half times increased the number of pigs. The yield of grain of the Kaliningrad region is in the top three Russian regions in 2015 collected 550 thousand tons of grain.

The region needs two new vertically integrated agro-industrial complex: one in the dairy industry, second in beef cattle.

To close the region’s needs year-round vegetables for the required five years to build at least 20 hectares of greenhouses. You need to triple the area of the orchards and bring the total area up to thousands of hectares.
