MOSCOW, December 23. The Russian military is prepared to join forces with their French colleagues in the fight against international terrorism.

This was stated by the chief of the General staff of the Russian armed forces army General Valery Gerasimov during a meeting with his French counterpart army General Pierre de Villiers.

“I would like to emphasize that we are ready to cooperate with the Ministry of defence of France so, how ready our partners,” he said.

Gerasimov recalled that after the terrorist attacks in Paris, President Vladimir Putin instructed to work with the French air force as the allies. “We have been allies in the struggle against fascism and should be allies in the fight against terrorists,” continued the chief of the General staff of the Russian armed forces.

Gerasimov offered the French counterpart to exchange on the current situation in Syria. “We will discuss the results of the air operation of aircraft Air and space forces in Syria and share our vision of prospects of further development (a situation) in this country”, – said the chief of the General staff.

“After your first visit to Moscow was not much time, but changes in global and regional security were significant. International terrorism, which three years ago was assessed as a potential threat, unfortunately, has affected many countries,” – said Gerasimov.

He stressed that the terrorist attacks in Paris were perceived in Russia with indignation and sympathy for the people of France. Gerasimov said that the necessary fiscal consolidation efforts, primarily by the elimination of sources of financial and material support of terrorists.

“Today, France has made considerable efforts to build a coalition to fight against terrorists in Syria and Iraq. We support these efforts. Events in the middle East and North Africa has shown that no single state cannot confront the threat of international terrorism”, – concluded the General.

A series of terrorist attacks in France

A series of terrorist attacks occurred on the night of 14 November in Paris. In the concert hall Bataclan, the unknown took hostages. According to the latest data, as a result of terrorist attacks killed 130 people, and about 350 were injured. Attacks made nine terrorists.

In connection with the incident, President Francois Hollande announced the introduction in the country of state of emergency and the introduction of intensified control of crossing the state borders. He later stated that the responsibility for the attack bears the terrorist group “Islamic state” (banned in Russia).

Hollande also called on the citizens to unite at this difficult time. “We must show solidarity and unity. France needs to be strong,” – said the head of state.

The French General recalled that his visit to Russia is the continuation of the visit of the French President Francois Hollande, who visited Moscow in late November. In addition, two days ago in Russia was visited by the French Minister of defense Jean-Yves Le Drian.

“I think this is a milestone event – our cooperation and exchange of information should increase. Our countries have a long-standing friendship and cooperation in the military sphere,” added de Villa.

The General noted that he has a “long history of interaction with the Russian army” in Kosovo in 1998. “I have to say that you have very good soldiers”, – he said at a meeting with the head of the General staff of the Russian armed forces.
