BRUSSELS, December 24. /Corr. Victoria Dubrovina/. Russia and the EU will not return and should not return to the relationship as if nothing happened. This was stated on Thursday in an exclusive interview with Russia’s permanent representative to the EU Vladimir Chizhov, commenting on the EU’s decision to extend economic sectoral sanctions against Russia until July 31, 2016.
“I agree with my colleagues from the EU. Unlikely to return to the relationship as if nothing happened, a real and, moreover, necessary. We are interested in an equal relationship based on common strategic objectives of the partnership, taking into account the interests of each other and of our shared responsibility for the future of our shared continent”, – said the permanent representative.
Speaking about prospects of development of the EU in 2016, he expressed “sincere hope” that “the EU will have the patience, determination and wisdom to overcome the problems that today the attractiveness of the European project badly faded”.
“We hope that the EU will muster the political courage and independence to adjust that line, which in the past year prevented the normal development of relations with Russia”, – said Chizhov.
