Usackas: the EU remains open to Russian gas

MOSCOW, 24 Dec –. The EU remains open to Russian gas and wants to see in Russia a reliable supplier in the future, but requires compliance with competition rules, said in an interview with the EU Ambassador in Russia Vygaudas Usackas.

“I would also like to stress that the EU remains open to Russian gas, and we want to see Russia as a reliable supplier of natural gas in the future. But we also want to transport Russian gas to comply with our diversification strategy, and to Russian suppliers, as all others, comply with our competition rules and regulations of the energy market”, — said Ushatskas.

He noted that “the European business, which operates in the Russian market, complies with Russian regulations, and we expect the same from Gazprom”.

“We have taken note of the consent of the shareholders for the construction of “Nord stream-2″. He must fully comply with the legislation of the European Union and will be evaluated from this point of view, based on its advantages. It is also very important that the European Commission will support only those projects that meet the goals of the Energy Union, including in the field of energy security and in this context takes into account diversification of sources, routes and energy supplies,” — said the Agency interlocutor.

Usackas sure that “countries’ requests will be taken into account in all sets of questions and criteria by which the Commission will make a decision”.
