Moscow. December 25. Group of companies Danone is one of the leading producers of dairy products in Russia, closes plants in Tomsk and Cheboksary.
According to the press release, it is connected with optimization of production in the Siberian and Volga Federal districts. In the optimization of the industrial facilities decided to terminate the Tomsk dairy plant with the further consolidation of production capacity in enterprises in Kemerovo and Krasnoyarsk, as well as Cheboksary urban dairy plant with a gradual transfer of production to the enterprises in Samara, Saransk and Kazan.
“The main reasons for this decision are serious technological deterioration of plants, their low profitability and declining sales, which in the current economic environment does not justify the investment required to bring these sites into compliance with new quality standards and environmental safety”, – stated in a press release.
The optimization will affect 300 people.
“Danone undertakes to take care of each employee. Employee benefits will significantly exceed the requirements of the current labour legislation of the Russian Federation”, – underlined in the message.
However Danone confirms its plans for development and investment in Russia. In 2012, the company announced plans by 2017 to invest $700 million in the modernization of production capacities on the territory of the Russian Federation. Due to already completed projects dairy plant in Siberia (Kemerovo dairy plant and dairy plant of the Krasnoyarsk “Milko”) and in the Volga region (dairy plant “Samaralakto”, dairy factory “Saransky”, Kazan milk factory “the Edelweiss-M”) expanded product portfolio, increased production capacity and improved the standards of quality and safety of manufactured products.
According to a press release, the factories in Tomsk and Cheboksary will be stopped until the end of the first quarter of 2016. This will not affect the volume of purchases of milk and delivery of finished products in the areas of location of enterprises and the surrounding regions. Raw materials and production will be redistributed to other businesses in Siberia and the Volga region, explained in a press release.
Currently, the group Danone in Russia is composed of 18 plants, the Volume of the company’s investment in Russia reached $2 billion, Danone has been operating in Russia since 1992.
