Lavrov will hold talks with foreign Minister of Qatar


MOSCOW, December 25. The Minister of foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov and foreign Minister of Qatar Khaled bin Mohammed al – Attiyah will hold talks in Moscow. The main topic is expected to be the settlement of the conflict in Syria. It will also focus on prospects for economic cooperation.

As have informed in the Russian foreign Ministry, “on the Syrian issue, Lavrov and al-Attiyah will thoroughly discuss further steps within the framework of the International support group Syria (MGPS), including in the context of the outcome on 18 December in new York next Ministerial meeting MGPS and meetings of the UN security Council”. “We continue to consider as absolute priority and the task of creating a broad international coalition to combat “Islamic state” (is prohibited in the Russian Federation terrorist group) and other terrorist groups in Syria and Iraq,” – said in Russian depodesta.

Another aspect of the upcoming talks will be the strengthening of political coordination in the framework of the strategic dialogue Russia-cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC), the next Ministerial meeting which is planned to be held in 2016 in Moscow. Lavrov and al-Attiyah addressed the issues of comprehensive security in the Persian Gulf, including in the context of Russian initiatives in this sphere.

An important topic for discussion in the upcoming talks in the Russian foreign Ministry see the coordination of the Russian and Qatar in the energy sector, particularly gas, in the context of persistent tensions in the world markets of hydrocarbons. Here Moscow stands for the intensification of contacts at relevant international forums, including the Forum of gas exporting countries, the headquarters of which is located in Doha.

The foreign Ministers will also discuss the possibility of more full use of the existing potential for increasing business cooperation between Moscow and Doha, especially in the investment sphere. “An important role in this process, a Joint Russian – Qatari Commission on trade, economic and scientific – technical cooperation, whose first meeting co-chaired by the Minister of energy of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak and Minister of energy and industry of Qatar Mohammed bin Saleh al – Gardens held in March 2015 in Doha,” added the Russian foreign Ministry.
