The Federation Council dismissed Deputy Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Alexander Zvyagintsev

MOSCOW, December 25. The Federation Council at plenary session has satisfied a resignation of the Deputy Prosecutor General of Russia Alexander Zvyagintsev.

In accordance with applicable law, the competence of the chamber include the appointment and dismissal of the Prosecutor General and his deputies. The proposal of the President of the Russian Federation on the issue of Zvyagintsev’s resignation was read by the Plenipotentiary of the President in the Federation Council Artur Ants. According to him, the Deputy Prosecutor General “dismissed on the basis of submitted their report about dismissal from bodies of Prosecutor’s office of the Russian Federation in connection with the retirement on superannuation”.


Alexander Zvyagintsev was born in 1948 in the city of Zhitomir, in 1976 graduated from Kharkov law Institute on the specialty “Jurisprudence”.

Until 1987 he held various positions in the Prosecutor’s office of the USSR, then – in office of public Prosecutor of the USSR, RSFSR and the Russian Federation where supervised questions of public relations and the media.

In the position of Deputy General Prosecutor Zvyagintsev has worked for 15 years (since 2000). The strengthening of the rule of law was repeatedly encouraged, awarded state and departmental awards. Has the rank of state counselor of justice of first class.
