Media: the construction of new nuclear power plants in Iran with the participation of Russia will begin in the coming weeks


MOSCOW, December 27. The construction of new nuclear power stations in Iran with the participation of Russia is scheduled to begin in the coming weeks. It is reported by the Fars news Agency citing an official representative of the atomic energy organization of Iran Behrouz Kamalvandi.

“Construction work should begin in the coming weeks and we plan to start negotiations with Russian partners, as soon as possible after the new year holidays,” he said.

In early December of the current year the Russian Federation and of Iran (Iran) held a meeting during which they discussed prospects of cooperation in the nuclear industry. Hand, as reported in the company “Atomstroyexport” (General contractor of the construction), reiterated their mutual interest in building in Iran new nuclear power units with Russian design.

Earlier the head of Rosatom Sergey Kirienko stated that full-scale work on the construction of new power units in Iran will begin in autumn 2015.

As reported, Russia and Iran in early November 2014, signed in Moscow a package of agreements on construction in Iran eight nuclear power units. In particular, signed a contract for the construction of the second phase of the NPP Bushehr, envisages the construction of two nuclear units, expandable to four.

Also, according to the agreement, the parties intend to build another four units on other sites, which to date have not been determined.

Funding for the construction of the second and third units will be funded from Iran.
