Russia in 2015 has attracted a record harvest of vegetables


Moscow. December 29. Russia in 2015 has attracted a record harvest of vegetables – 16.1 million tonnes against 15.5 million tons last year, according to the Ministry of agriculture. The rate is 12.3% above the average for the last five years.

As underlined by the Agency, the growth has come despite challenging macroeconomic environment, as well as drought, floods and fires in some regions.

According to data of regional agricultural administrative bodies on the 24th of December, the gross harvest of greenhouse vegetables amounted to 470,9 thousand tons, including cucumbers – 337 thousand tonnes, tomatoes – 123,4 thousand tons of other vegetables – 10.5 thousand tons.

The crop totaled 33.6 million tons, 15.9% more than the average for the last five years. In 2014 it was dug some 31.5 million tons of potatoes. The harvest of fruits and berries amounted to 2.9 million tonnes. That’s 9% more than the average for the last five years, but lower than 2014 (3 million tons).
