Ukrainian traffic now continue to use a small number of operators, said Vice-Premier of the Crimean government. According to him, the key operators have already switched to the traffic with mainland Russia via optical fiber.
SIMFEROPOL, 31 Dec –. Major Internet service providers in Crimea have already switched to Russian traffic, and in the case of damage to the cable from the Ukraine most users will not feel the discomfort, said Vice-Premier of the Crimean government — Minister of internal policy, information and communication Dmitry Polonsky.
Republic of Crimea and city of Sevastopol became Russian regions following the results of the referendum on 16 March 2014. The first fiber optic cable was laid to the Peninsula across the Kerch Strait last year, now the second one is laid. As reported earlier, the Minister of communications and mass communications of the RF Nikolay Nikiforov, this will allow the Crimea to completely abandon the Internet traffic still comes from Ukraine in small volumes.
As previously reported by Ukrainian media, one of the organizers of the food and energy blockade of the Crimea Lenur islyamov threatened to turn off cellular and Internet from the territory of Ukraine to the Peninsula. According to him, all the Crimean providers have warned that Internet traffic from the territory of Ukraine may be terminated at any time, and was obliged to reserve the communication channels through cable, which links the Crimea with mainland Russia.
“Unfortunately, our so-called Ukrainian partners, who are absolutely we’re not partners, may at any time disable. Even if it happens, citizens themselves will not feel it, because all the largest operators reserved Internet traffic, and small operators, even if switched off, and a short time”, — said Deputy Prime Minister.
Polonsky stressed that the Internet and connectivity on the Peninsula in fact not vulnerable to any influences from outside.
