MOSCOW, December 31. The President of Russia Vladimir Putin instructed to make a survey of the population in Crimea and Sevastopol before entering into a contract for the supply of electricity, told reporters energy Minister Alexander Novak.
“The President instructed to urgently contact one of the leading professional agencies in order to conduct a sociological survey of the population of the Crimea and Sevastopol in the following questions. First question: do you support or not the conclusion of the sales contract with Ukraine for the supply of parts of electricity in the Crimea and Sevastopol, if it is specified that Crimea and Sevastopol are part of Ukraine”, – said the Minister. He recalled that this wording wants to prescribe in the contract Ukraine, and Russia could not agree.
“Second question: are you ready to temporary difficulties related to minor disruptions of energy supply within the next 3-4 months,” the Minister said.
According to him, the President considers appropriate to conduct the survey before making a final decision on signing or not signing the contract.
About the missing amounts of electricity
The missing amount of electricity in the Crimea will be provided by diesel generators, also said Novak. “If the Ukrainian authorities do not renew the contract on the terms that were in 2015, this situation can lead to the fact that in a few months the supply will not be provided in full and about 10-15% of the electricity deficit will be covered by diesel generators, will be introduced or the timelines of supply to consumers within a few hours,” he said.
The Minister noted that the Peninsula is supplied with electricity accounting for the flows of the unified energy system at the level of 80-85%.
Turn off the power supply of the Crimea
The Crimea was disconnected on 22 November, when because of the erosion of the supports out of order, all four power lines coming from Ukraine. On the Peninsula was entered emergency mode, started to be applied schedules of emergency outages. The situation has improved with the launch on 2 December the first leg of the power bridge from the Krasnodar region, and the December 15 of the second leg has increased its capacity to 400 MW.
Two more strands of the power bridge total the same capacity to be commissioned in the spring that would make the Crimea independent from Ukrainian electricity.
The Peninsula’s population exceeds 2.2 million people.
