Indices Dow Jones, NASDAQ and S&P 500 this year reached record levels, but could not hold highs amid falling world oil prices.

MOSCOW, 1 Jan. The American stock exchange in the past 2015 has decreased, according to AFP.

For the year the Dow Jones industrial average lost 2.2%, for the first time in six years, closing in the red. Index of technology companies NASDAQ rose 5.7%, the index of wide market S&P 500 lost 0.7%, thus breaking a three-year annual growth.

All three indexes this year have reached record levels, but could not hold highs amid falling world oil prices.

On the last day of the year on the background of data on the labor market, Dow Jones has decreased on 1,02%, to 17425,03 item index of technology companies NASDAQ — on 1,15%, to 5007,41 points, the index of wide market S&P 500 by 0.94% to 2043,94 item.

As reported by the U.S. Department of labour, the number of initial applications for unemployment benefits in the country for the week ended 26 December increased by 20 thousand compared with the figures of previous period and amounted to 287 thousand. Analysts polled by Reuters had expected growth rate to 3 thousand with the figures of previous period to 267 thousand.

Stock markets in the U.S. will be closed on Friday due to new year holidays. The whole week the trading volume was low as most of the players had already left for the holidays.
