“Gazprom” has refused purchase of Turkmen natural gas

The basis for this decision lies with the changed conditions on the international gas market, separate economic and financial issues arising from “Gazprom export” reports “Turkmengaz”.

ASHGABAT, 4 Jan. Amangeldy Of Nurmuradov. The Russian company OOO “Gazprom export” has informed the state concern “Turkmengaz” on the cessation of purchases of Turkmen natural gas, said on Monday the press service of the Turkmen state concern.

The report notes that “the basis for this decision lies with the changed conditions on the international gas market, as well as selected economic and financial issues arising from “Gazprom export”.

“Turkmengaz”, informing about the above, noted its readiness to conduct negotiations with “Gazprom export” on a broad range of issues related to economic ties between the two economic entities”, — stated in the message the press service of the Turkmen gas Department.

Until the global economic crisis of 2008, Russia was the main buyer of Turkmen natural gas. Then Turkmenistan supplied Russia with about 50 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year. The crisis has reduced these volumes to 10 billion cubic meters per year, and in 2015 — up to 4 billion cubic meters.
