Media: Russia will not renew the contract on electricity supplies to Ukraine


MOSCOW, January 12. Russia will not renew the contract on electricity supplies to Ukraine after refusing to buy Ukrainian electricity for Crimea. About this newspaper “Kommersant” with reference to sources in the Ministry of energy of the Russian Federation.

“Russia does not negotiate for the supply of electricity from Russia to Ukraine. To renew it will not, as initially it was linked to the contract for the supply of electricity from Ukraine in Crimea”, – stated in the message.

In 2014 Ukraine to buy electricity from the power system of Russia under contract between “inter RAO” and “Ukrinterenergo”, which was in force until the end of 2015. At the same time the contract was made and on the supply of electricity from Ukraine in Crimea. However, the supply of electricity from Ukraine in Crimea ceased 22 November 2015, when because of the erosion of the supports out of order, all four power lines coming from Ukraine.

In December 2015, Ukraine has partially restored supply of electricity in the Crimea, however, Russia has not concluded a contract for the supply of energy to the Peninsula in 2016, as Kiev called to prescribe that the Crimea is Ukrainian territory. According to all-Russian center for public opinion research (VTSIOM), 93.1% of residents of Crimea and Sevastopol voted against the contract with Kiev on the supply of electricity if it is specified that Crimea and Sevastopol are part of Ukraine.

Earlier, the press service of the Ministry of energy and coal industry of Ukraine reported that Ukraine imports electricity from Russia since the beginning of October 2015. The source of the newspaper “Kommersant” also noted that, “Ukraine has not expressed the need for supplies from Russia to 2016”.

However, according to the publication, despite the fact that Russia would not renew the agreement on energy supplies to Ukraine, will continue to operate the contract on parallel work of power systems, which are the flows in emergency situations.
