Ambassador: Iran wants to expand partnership with the EEU and the New silk road


Iran has an interest in promising economic projects of the SCO member States and is ready to play its role in these initiatives, said the Ambassador of the Republic in Moscow Mehdi Sanai.

MOSCOW, 14 Jan. Iran is interested in the introduction of free trade with the Eurasian economic Union, is ready to develop closer cooperation with the EEU, and vystraivaet from China to Europe a New silk road, said Thursday the Ambassador of the Republic in Moscow Mehdi Sanai.

About that Iran and the Eurasian economic Union will start work on creating a free trade zone, became known in December 2015.

“Iran has a particular interest in promising economic projects of the SCO member States, such as the Eurasian economic Union and the Economic belt of the silk road and would like to participate and play a role in both of these projects. Iran is interested in the introduction of free trade regime with the EAEU and believes that closer relations with this Union may become the basis for the development of economic cooperation of Iran with the countries part of this Union”, — said the Ambassador, speaking at the session, in the framework of the Gaidar forum.

He recalled that in Addition to Iran also “has always played an important role in the ancient silk road”.

“And in this regard we support the silk road project. I think it would be useful to consider the details of the agreement the Eurasian economic Union, the strategy of the New silk road economic cooperation within the SCO (where Iran hopes to join after withdrawing from the Republic of UN sanctions)”, — the diplomat said.

The idea of building a new silk road that would connect China with countries of Europe and to strengthen cooperation with Asia and Africa, head of China put forward in 2013. We are talking about creating a trade corridor for direct delivery of goods from East to West on favorable terms. China expects to create a transport network from the Pacific ocean to the Baltic sea to reduce barriers to trade and investment, to expand the system of settlements in national currencies.
