The speaker: to discuss the terms for the privatisation of Sberbank is still early


For the privatization of the savings Bank will need to amend the law on the Bank of Russia. Ulyukayev proposed to revisit the issue of privatization of the largest Russian banks – Sberbank and VTB at the Gaidar forum.

BEIJING, 17 Jan. The head of the Ministry of economic development Alexei Ulyukayev believes that it is premature to discuss terms of a possible privatization of Sberbank.

“This is a premature question,” said the speaker journalists, answering a question on possible terms of privatization of Sberbank.

Earlier, speaking at the Gaidar forum at the Ranepa, the speaker proposed to revisit the issue of privatization of the largest Russian banks — Sberbank and VTB, which, in his opinion, will allow to improve the situation with capitalization of the domestic banking system.

However, according to Deputy Finance Minister of Russia Alexei Moiseyev, this looks problematic because of the sanctions: due to restrictions on the shares will be uninteresting to foreign investors, therefore, can only sell the individual packets out of the market.

The speaker noted that for privatization of the savings Bank will need to amend the law on the Bank of Russia. The share of the Central Bank in the authorized capital of Sberbank is now 50% +1 share.

The head of Sberbank German Gref said earlier that it is “extremely positively” to the idea of privatizing Sberbank, as well as all other banks in state ownership. However, he acknowledged that a detailed discussion of this topic in the government.
