The Committee of the state Duma approved a ban on the use of photos of people when campaigning


The bill provides for restrictions on the use of campaign materials to images of persons who are not candidates.

MOSCOW, 18 Jan. The state Duma Committee on constitutional legislation and state construction recommended the lower chamber of Russian Parliament to adopt in the first reading the draft law the deputies of the LDPR faction, which prohibits candidates to use the campaign photos with other people including famous.

According to the explanatory note, the bill provides limitations on the use of campaign materials to images of persons who are not candidates. However it is allowed to use image candidate among the public.

The bill provides that statements by various individuals about the candidate and political parties can be used as before, provided that the candidate’s consent to such use.

“However the draft explicitly prohibited for use in campaign materials statements by individuals, which the Federal law is prohibited to carry out election agitation, agitation on referendum”, — stated in the explanatory Memorandum.

The authors believe that the adoption of the bill will increase awareness of candidates on elections of any level, encourages them to participate actively in the election campaign.

It is expected that the first reading of the bill will take place on January 26.
