Russia and Iran discuss expansion of bilateral agricultural trade


The main commodity items in the export structure from Russia to Iran in 2015 in terms of value were cereals and sunflower oil.

MOSCOW, 19 Jan. Russia and Iran will consider proposals to enhance bilateral trade in farm produce and food, and will also discuss issues of cooperation in the field of veterinary and phytosanitary surveillance, in the field of fisheries, according to the Ministry of agriculture of the Russian Federation on Tuesday.

These issues will be discussed at the meeting of the Minister of agriculture of Russia, Alexander Tkachev, Minister of agricultural Jihad the Islamic Republic of Iran Mahmoud of Hodjati in Tehran.

According to Federal customs service of Russia, exports to Iran in total volume of Russian exports of agricultural raw materials and food in 2015 was 3.1% or 484,4 million dollars. The main commodity items in the export structure from Russia to Iran in 2015 in terms of value were cereals (91%, including wheat and meslin – 62,2%, barley 23,5%) and sunflower oil (5.1 per cent).

Imports from Iran in Russia’s total imports of agricultural raw materials and food amounted in 2015 to 0.7% or 194,3 million (according to data from FCS). The main commodity items in imports from Iran to Russia in 2015 in terms of value were the vegetables (51,7%, including cucumbers – 29,8%, cabbage – 11,0%), fruits, fruits, nuts (of 40.3%, including other fruit – 14,7%, nuts – 11,3%, and grapes – 8%) and processed vegetables and fruits (4.7 percent).
