Pushkov: Russia has nothing to lose from refusing to participate in the PACE

The absence of the Russian delegation to PACE can be compensated by presence on other platforms, said the head of the international Committee of the state Duma Alexei Pushkov. According to him, this decision will not lose Russia, and PACE.

MOSCOW, 20 Jan. Russia loses nothing because of refusal to participate in the work of the parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in 2016, said the head of the Russian delegation and the international Committee of the state Duma Alexei Pushkov.

On Tuesday, the President of PACE Anne Brasseur said that the refusal of the Russian delegation to participate in the PACE winter session will automatically void its powers on all 2016. About the refusal of the Russian delegation, which from spring 2014 devoid of powers in PACE, to apply for the January session of the Assembly announced 18 January, the Chairman of the state Duma Sergey Naryshkin. Russia has repeatedly stated that he would return to PACE only when removed from the delegations of all sanctions.

“Russia is absolutely nothing to lose, because we in our lack of PACE can be compensated by presence on other sites. From the fact that we will not participate in the activities of PACE in 2016, PACE, in my opinion, loses a lot,” said Pushkov reporters on Wednesday.

He added that relations with Russia is one of the key issues of the Council of Europe and PACE.

“In conditions, when not yet allowed Ukrainian crisis, the PACE actually throws himself to the sidelines of political negotiations on Ukraine. It is also quite obvious,” he added.
