MOSCOW, 20 Jan. The meeting of the Russian presidential aide Vladislav Surkov and Deputy Secretary of state Victoria Nuland is a dialogue at the expert level, one purpose of which is the ability for the U.S. to obtain first-hand information about the channel process, reported on Wednesday to journalists the President’s press Secretary Dmitry Peskov.
Earlier Surkov and Nuland held in Kaliningrad negotiations on the situation in Ukraine. The parties have described them as constructive. According to Surkov, on some sensitive issues, such as constitutional reform in Ukraine, security and elections, to put forward ideas that can be discussed in a contact group in the Normandy format (Russia, Germany, France, Ukraine).
“As for these negotiations, in this case we are talking about the dialogue at the expert level between Moscow and Washington. You know that the US are not parties to the channel process, however, of course, all are interested in that, not being a member of the channel process, the U.S. had the opportunity to receive information first hand,” said Sands.
