After approval by Parliament a law on denunciation of agreements with Russia on joint construction of the upstream Naryn HPP cascade and Kambarata HPP-1 shall be signed by the President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev.
BISHKEK, 20 Dec –. The Parliament of Kyrgyzstan at the meeting on Wednesday approved the bill on denunciation of agreements with Russia on joint construction of the upstream Naryn HPP cascade and Kambarata HPP-1.
The decision on the denunciation was supported by all present at the meeting, 97 deputies to the 120-seat Jogorku Kenesh (Parliament) of the country.
As reported in the press service of the Jogorku Kenesh, after approval by Parliament a law on denunciation must be signed by the President of Kyrgyzstan.
In December of 2015, President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev said that Bishkek is considering the possibility of exit agreements with Russia on the upper Naryn cascade and Kambarata HPP-1, as well as finding new investors because of the difficulties experienced by the Russian economy. Atambayev said that he had found in this question full understanding with the Russian leadership. Later, the Kyrgyz government announced the decision to denounce the agreement with Russia due to the fact that the Russian side “has recognized the impossibility of raising funds to implement the terms of the agreement”.
