Moscow. January 20. The Minister of Finance of Ukraine Natalie Jaresko hopes soon to discuss with his Russian counterpart Anton Siluanov, the question of the debt by $3 billion.
Ukraine in December defaulted on Eurobonds worth $3 billion Russia bought in late 2013 with funds from the national welfare Fund. Kiev offered Moscow debt restructuring with commercial creditors terms, Russia to discuss this option is refused, insisting on the sovereign nature of the debt. Until the end of January, Russia is going to sue Ukraine in the international court of justice, said the Minister of Finance of the Russian Federation.
In an interview with reporters on the sidelines of the world economic forum in Davos Yaresko recalled that first meeting with Siluanov was held in October in Peru on the sidelines of the session of the IMF and the world Bank. Now a mediator in the contacts between the two ministries is the Ministry of Finance of Germany, she said.
“We met in Lima, and we maintain contact through the German Ministry of Finance. We are trying to coordinate dates of meetings. Unfortunately, we will not be able to meet in Davos – as I understand it, Siluanov’s not here,” said she.
“Three ministries must coordinate their schedules. This is a difficult process. I think soon, I hope, very soon,” – said Yaresko on the question of whether to have a meeting before the end of January.
