MOSCOW, January 21. The lifting of sanctions with Iran creates additional conditions for increasing trade cooperation between Russia and Iran. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.
“The lifting of sanctions against Iran creates additional conditions for increasing and diversifying trade and economic cooperation between our countries, – the diplomat noted. – We reaffirm our mutual desire to deepen cooperation in practical areas, and this is evident from specific agreement for extension of the range of mutual deliveries of agricultural products and foodstuffs”.
Iran and the SCO
Zakharova also said that Tehran has filed an application for full membership in the Shanghai cooperation organization (SCO) in 2008, now, with the lifting of sanctions, the way to do this is open.
The lifting of the sanctions makes Iran a full-fledged and strong international player
“Iran since 2005 actively involved in SCO activities as an observer, – noted the diplomat. – Tehran has filed an application for full membership in 2008. However, the obstacle to this has been the sanctions imposed by the UN security Council that was contrary to the Charter of the SCO (the presence of sanctions against Iran – approx.Corr)”.
“In connection with the beginning of the implementation of the comprehensive plan of action and step to starting this process is the lifting of international sanctions against Iran, consequently the way is opened to start a practical consideration of the application of Tehran’s membership in the SCO,” – said Zakharov.
“Russia has consistently supported full-length the Iran connection to and interaction with the SCO countries, and with this organization, “SCO family” and ready to launch this process”, – said official representative of Russian foreign Ministry.
