Trutnev: sanctions against Russia had the opposite effect

DAVOS, January 21. Anti-Russian sanctions had had the opposite result and led to increased support to the Russian authorities by the population, said on the sidelines of the economic forum in Davos the head of the Russian delegation at the forum in Davos, Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Trutnev.

“Any action has to make sense. As I understand it, was the idea that things will worsen the economic situation in Russia, people will feel worse and say the government and the President that it’s not necessary to behave and need to change something in politics,” said Trutnev during a thematic Breakfast VTB on the sidelines of the forum.

However, “support the President and the government increased by one third. (Sanctions) actions (against Russia) alone have led to the opposite result”, – said Trutnev.
