Jaresko: negotiate Ukraine with Russia on $3 billion of debt Germany helps


DAVOS, 22 January. Germany is providing assistance to Ukraine in negotiations with Russia on debt restructuring of $3 billion the Minister of Finance of Ukraine Natalia Jaresko told journalists in Davos.

“We are always open to talks with Russia on debt restructuring. I’m talking with our friends and partners in Germany,” she said.

According to Jaresko, German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble helped organize a meeting with the Minister of Finance Anton Siluanov on 12 October in Lima (Peru) meeting on the sidelines of the IMF and participated in it.

The Minister expressed regret that the Russian delegation was unable to meet with the Ukrainian in Davos, but admitted that such a meeting will still take place in the near future and may take place in Berlin.

This Jaresko said that Ukraine is open to negotiations with Russia on debt restructuring. “But the conditions have to be better than those which underwent restructuring to private creditors”, – the Minister added.

In December 2013, the presidents of Russia and Ukraine Vladimir Putin and Victor Yanukovych have agreed that Moscow will give Kiev a loan of $15 billion through the placement of Ukrainian securities.

Within the program bonds for $3 billion were placed on the Irish stock exchange on 20 December 2013 and bought by Russia at the expense of the national welfare Fund.

20 December 2015, Ukraine has defaulted on Russia’s debt. The Finance Ministry in this regard has initiated judicial review proceedings.
