Poroshenko said he wants to return the Crimea to Ukraine legal way


Previously Natalia Jaresko said that Ukrainian authorities intend to launch a new diplomatic initiative for the return of the Peninsula. In his address, the President called the return of Donbas and Crimea the main priority of Ukraine.

KYIV, 22 Jan. President Petro Poroshenko declared that intends to return Crimea to the Ukraine and to regain control of the uncontrollable Kiev territories of Donbass political, diplomatic and international legal means.

Crimea and Sevastopol became the Russian regions after held there on March 16, 2014 referendum in which the majority of voters voted for reunification with Russia. In Moscow declared that the referendum in Crimea complies with international law and the UN Charter. Kiev still considers Crimea as part of Ukraine.

Earlier, the Ukrainian Minister of Finance Natalie Jaresko said that Ukrainian authorities intend soon to launch a new diplomatic initiative for the return of the Peninsula. According to her, Ukraine is aimed at creating a forum by analogy with the so-called Geneva format, in which participated Russia, Ukraine, the EU and the US.

“Such complex problems as the return of Ukraine to the Donbas and de-occupation of the Crimea plan to solve primarily political, diplomatic and international legal means, while strengthening the country’s defense capacity and our armed forces,” said Poroshenko in his address to Ukrainian people on the occasion of day of Conciliarity of the country.

In his address, the President called the return of Donbas and Crimea the main priority of Ukraine.
