MOSCOW, 22 Jan. The state Duma adopted on Friday in the first reading the bill requiring political candidates to participate in televised debates, in case of refusal they will lose airtime in favor of the opponents.
The initiator of the amendments was made by Vice-speaker of the lower house of Parliament from the “United Russia” Sergei Neverov. The Deputy noted that the proposed amendments are aimed at improving the quality of public representation. The politician, according to Neverov, must be able to defend their point of view.
“It is important that every citizen got an idea of who he will give his vote. Does one or the other candidate the specifics of the territories, what he is a candidate, what he is: how he thinks, what his moral beliefs,” said the Vice-speaker during discussion of the bill at the Duma meeting.
In turn, the Deputy head of the Duma Committee on constitutional legislation and state construction Dmitry Vyatkin explained that the project provides for the obligation it is a personal participation of the applicant.
“No aides, no proxies, namely candidates should submit their programme, to submit their vision for future work in the highest legislative body of our country”, — said the MP.
MP from the faction “Fair Russia” Vladimir Chebotarev proposed to circulate the proposed rule for the election of the President and the heads of subjects. In response to this Neverov explained that the draft does not provide for the discussion of the law “on elections of President of the Russian Federation”.
